Parent Involvement
Parents will be required to meet with the classroom teacher before the start of the program. During this initial meeting goals, needs and cultural concerns of the student will be discussed. The parent/guardian will fill out 3 questionnaires. This will ensure that the teacher and guardians are on the same page.
- The first questionnaire will allow the parent/guardian to discuss their academic and social goals for the year, in addition to what may be stated on their IEP

- The second and third questionnaires will clarify the student’s cultural background and will allow the parent/guardian to share their concerns about incorporating their background into the classroom setting.

Parent Trainings
Parents are encouraged to meet with the teachers at least every other month, during school hours, to observe their child's daily routine and activities. At the start of the school year parents will be given training(s) to reinforce what is being learned in the classroom. Parent trainings will be available periodically, at least twice throughout the year. The following are a list of topic areas that can be discussed:
Reading with your child Motivation and the Use of Rewards
Basic Math 101 Emotional and Social behaviors
Learning Styles Setting Boundaries and Power Struggles
The Power of Play Observing and Recording Behavior

Ongoing Parent/Guardian Meetings
Parents and teachers will be meeting on a consistent basis via phone, email or communication notebook at least once every two weeks. This will ensure that the parents the parents will be informed and the teacher will make the appropriate adjustments in the classroom if the parents aren’t happy. During these meetings, teachers will discuss what they the student has mastered, what needs improvement, and what they will be working on next. The teacher will use the following form to guide them during these meetings.
