Who is this program designed for?
This comprehensive program is designed for elementary age students, grades first through sixth, who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Students who are eligible for the NYS Alternate Assessment are candidates for this program. The first year of this program will encompass first through third graders in an 8:1:1 classroom setting with the anticipation of expanding to upper grade levels as students progress.
Alternative Assessment
The alternative assessment "is a collection of evidence called a datafolio that shows what the student can or can not do in English language arts, social studies, mathematics and science based on the learning standards for all students".
It is required by law that all students with disabilities are assessed. Therefore, this program will align with the alternative assessment standards to meet these standards. Families and schools are encouraged to work together to show accurate representation of the student's skills demonstrated in their datafolio. This program will align to meet the standards of the alternative assessment and ensure the students will meet the objectives required.
