Assessments
Formal Assessments
Formal assessments are a systematic way to evaluate and measure a student's progress. These assessments can be used to show how well a student is progressing in a topic at the beginning, middle and end of year. In this program the alternative assessment will be used as a formal assessment.
The following link contains a guideline and the steps needed for teachers to complete the alternative assessment in the classroom.
Portfolios
A portfolio is designed to keep track of a student's learning over time. These can include student sample work, individual projects and behavioral plans (academic, social and emotional). All paperwork must be dated and organized according to IEP goals. During this program, each student will have their own portfolio in order to keep track of all IEP goals and any parent concerns that may be addressed during the initial meeting.
Observations
Observations done by the teacher and other adult staff are done to assess a student during a typical day. These can include anecdotal notes or a checklist of skills that are mastered or need more time on a guided practice. Observations can be for behavioral, social and emotional needs.
